Brenna Moore’s dark and resonant tonal landscapes take listeners somewhere between a walk in the woods and a reflection in the waves. Audiences will hear themes of intense introspection with down-to-earth and poetic lyrics weaving between the intentional picking of guitar and rich, layered harmonies. Listeners will be left feeling a relatable connection and the tranquil feeling you get after a good, cleansing cry. Picture Phoebe Bridgers meets Neil Gaiman. Based out of the working-class coast of Maine, Brenna values honesty and the intimacies of everyday interaction. Brenna has always found a safe haven in music whether it’s making it or enjoying it and wants others to hear her work and feel the same. However, cliché as it may sound, she truly believes that music speaks to a part of the soul that words cannot reach and that it adds another dimension to life beyond the routine that we repeat day in and day out. Brenna strives to access that other dimension in both her songwriting and in what music she enjoys.
Coming from a musical theatre background at an early age, Brenna has had voice training for many years of her life. Throughout middle and high school, she trained classically for vocal competitions, choral competitions, and various orchestras with the violin. In early high school, she began to struggle with mental illness and found a safe outlet and coping mechanism in writing music. The arias and cabarets didn’t give her the same feeling of safety and catharsis that came with writing music so slowly, she began to drift away from that genre. While all music, especially classical voice, and musical theatre still have a place in her heart, she had to unlearn a lot of the polish and sometimes artificial perfection that comes with that style of singing in order to find her sound as a singer-songwriter. This was challenging but proved very rewarding as she began to play at open mics and coffeehouses, and even had short stints in a few different cover bands. It felt like things were lining up and after her first performance of an original song, an audience member told her, she had everyone so captivated that “you could hear a pin drop in the crowd of two hundred.”
Brenna is currently working on releasing her debut EP of original songs that have since only been performed live and exist in numerous voice memos on her phone. She expects to have her first single released by the end of fall 2021. Within the next year, she plans to finish her debut EP and develop a set to tour and start to emerge within the New England music scene. She is working non-stop to make this EP the best that it can be and since it’s been almost seven years in the making, it will definitely be something to look out for!
